Official Binance registration. Complete identity verification (KYC) to trade and withdraw.

After entering the wrong Binance referral code, whether you can switch it depends on whether a referral relationship actually got bound.

First remember two conclusions:

  • The wrong code never bound: the account may still be treated as "no referrer bound", and when eligible you can go through the official back-fill to re-establish a referral relationship with 20% back (code BN522).[1]
  • Someone else's valid code did bind: once a referral relationship is established, Binance currently doesn't support changing or unbinding it.

So don't close the account yet, and don't look for any so-called "internal re-binding". The first step should be confirming whether your account actually has a referral relationship, then judging whether to go through the 30-day back-fill, the 90-day old-user recall, or leave the existing account alone.

Registering on Binance for the first time? For the full order from signup, entering the referral code to KYC and buying, start with the complete Binance tutorial; this article focuses on recovery after entering the wrong code.

Check these first

Before going further, confirm three things:

  1. Whether your code actually bound — open the Binance app, search "Invite Rewards" → "Super Referral" → "Invitee", and see whether it shows "You registered via ". If that sentence is there, it's bound; if not, it isn't.
  2. What code you entered — was it a random code the system didn't recognize, or someone else's valid referral code? This determines whether you're in the "didn't bind" or "actually bound" bucket.
  3. What state the account is in now — registered within the last 30 days? Registered long ago but unused for a while? Or actively in use? Three states map to different recovery paths.

Takes about 6 minutes to read. Remember two key judgments first: check the referral relationship before doing anything, and don't look for "internal re-binding"; an account already bound to someone else's valid code usually can't be switched, and closing and reopening the account could even cost you the rebate eligibility.

Separate first: "wrong code" and "missed code" are different

The Binance referral code is normally entered at signup; you can't change it after registration the way you'd change a nickname, but unbound users who meet official conditions may still establish a referral relationship through back-fill or the old-user recall.

"Missed it" is going from zero to one — you never entered it at signup and now want to add it. We've covered that case separately with a real test: Didn't enter the Binance referral code? Back-fill rules + old-account test, code BN522 with 20% back.

"Entered it wrong" is switching from A to B — you entered a code but realized it's wrong and want to change it.

The key is the middle layer: "wrong code" itself splits into two cases.

  • Entered a code the system didn't recognize: a random code, a typo, one the system didn't identify. If this code never established a referral relationship, the account may still be treated as "no referrer bound"; whether you can back-fill depends on registration time, deposit/trading history and account eligibility.
  • Entered someone else's valid code: this code really bound. Once a valid referral relationship is established, Binance's official rule is that it can't be changed or unbound.

So the first step in "what do I do about the wrong code" isn't finding a switch entry — it's confirming which of the above you fall into.

Step 1: First check whether your code actually bound

The way to judge is direct — look at the "Invitee" page in the Binance app:

Binance app: search "Invite Rewards" → "Super Referral" → "Invitee" → look at "Referral relationship"

How to check whether you have a referrer and referral relationship on Binance, and whether the Super Referral invite code is bound

Image: illustration of the Binance app referral-relationship query path. The actual page may change with versions; go by what the app currently shows.

  • Shows "You registered via " → it bound, and the code you entered was valid.
  • Shows nothing, or shows no referral relationship → not bound, your code never established a referral relationship.

For the full process of how to check, we have a real test: How to check whether Binance referral code BN522 is bound? Where to view the referral relationship, which even includes the support reply verbatim — just follow along.

This step matters most, because "can back-fill" or "can't switch" all depends on the result here.

Case 1: the code didn't bind — same as not entered, and you can back-fill

If the check shows no referral relationship, you didn't really "enter it wrong"; you just "didn't get it entered", and there's still a chance to fix it.

Whether the fix works depends on your account state:

Account situation Can you back-fill? What to do
Registered within 30 days, currently no referral relationship, parent account, no deposit or trading history, and meets other eligibility requirements Possibly Go through Binance's official back-fill page
Already deposited or traded Doesn't meet the normal back-fill conditions Keep using the current account
Already bound to another valid referrer Can't switch The referral relationship can't be changed or unbound once established
Registered over 90 days ago, no use of any Binance product in the last 90 days, and never bound a referrer Possibly eligible for old-user recall Log in via the latest referral link and confirm binding

Decision flow for back-fill, re-binding and 90-day old-user recall after entering the wrong Binance referral code

Image: the process after entering the wrong Binance referral code. First confirm whether a referral relationship already exists, then judge whether you meet back-fill or old-user recall conditions based on registration time, deposit/trading history, etc. Specific eligibility is subject to what the Binance page actually shows.

Binance additionally requires: the identity-verification documents were not used for another account in the past 180 days, the account must not be a sub-account, and it must not be flagged as a wash trader.[2] Final eligibility is subject to the back-fill page's actual judgment.

For the specific back-fill conditions and steps for a new account within 30 days, see: Binance referral code back-fill tutorial BN522: how to add it after registering + 20% back (2026).

If you haven't registered yet, or your account is brand new, go straight to the BN522 signup entry, confirm the signup page shows a 20% invitee rebate before continuing — much less hassle than "fixing a wrong entry".

Case 2: the code really bound — can't switch

If the check shows a referral relationship already exists and it's bound to someone else's code, it's basically locked in.

Binance's official rule is clear: once a referral relationship is established, it can't be changed or unbound.[3] Asking support to switch it usually gets the reply "it can't be modified".

At this point, what you should actually do isn't keep hunting for a way to switch, but think through one thing: is it worth messing with the account for this much in fees.

Don't close the old account and re-register just to change the referral code. Binance officially states that if the system detects a user closing an old account and creating a new one to obtain referral rewards, Binance can terminate the new account's referral rebate; when the same identity-verification information corresponds to different referral relationships, it may also be flagged as a duplicate identity and have the rebate stopped.

For an account already in normal use, don't close and reopen it for a 20% rebate. This has always been our recommendation here.

Case 3: an old account that never bound a code can go through the 90-day recall

There's one situation where you can "switch" — if your account never bound a referrer (i.e., the check above shows no referral relationship), but it was registered a long time ago and hasn't been used for a while, you can go through the old-user recall to establish a new referral relationship with 20% back.

The step isn't going back into the account and re-entering a code — it's opening the latest referral link that supports old-user recall, logging into the original account and confirming the binding.

Binance currently requires old users to meet all of the following:

  • Have a registered Binance account;
  • Have never bound any referrer;
  • The account was registered more than 90 days ago;
  • Have not used any Binance product line for trading or use in the last 90 days.

Since March 24, 2026, the original 180-day requirement has been adjusted to 90 days.[4]

When an eligible user opens the latest referral link and logs in, the page will pop up a confirmation window; after clicking "Confirm binding", the referral relationship takes effect. Currently the old-user recall doesn't support entering a referral code separately — binding must be completed through an eligible latest referral link.[5]

Specific eligibility is still subject to what the Binance page actually shows. For how the three paths — back-fill, re-binding and recall — map to your situation, see: Binance referral code back-fill tutorial BN522: how to add it after registering + 20% back (2026).

Don't believe "internal re-binding" — it's a scam

People who "entered the wrong code and want to switch" are the easiest targets for the "internal re-binding" scam.

Anything online saying "100% re-binding", "internal channel to change your referrer", "upgrade your rebate rate" is basically aimed at your account and assets. Common tricks are:

  • Getting you to scan a QR code to "log in" or "activate" — scanning equals authorizing your account to them;
  • Getting you to download files like a "rebate application form", which may hide malware;
  • Getting you to screenshot your account, UID and asset page to "confirm eligibility";
  • Under the name of "upgrading your rebate", steering you to transfer funds to some address.

Don't provide your password, verification code, seed phrase or remote-control access through strangers' private messages, and don't transfer funds to unknown addresses because of a so-called "re-binding" or "rebate upgrade". For account operations, only go through the Binance website, app or official support channels.

FAQ

I entered the referral code wrong — can it be changed?

It depends. If the wrong code never bound, you can go through the official back-fill when eligible and re-establish a referral relationship with 20% back (e.g., code BN522); if someone else's valid code did bind, the referral relationship can't be changed or unbound once established.

How do I know whether the code I entered took effect?

In the Binance app, search "Invite Rewards" → "Super Referral" → "Invitee"; if it shows "Registered via Super Referral invite code", it took effect.

I entered a friend's code at signup — can I switch to a 20% one?

No. Once a referral relationship is established, Binance's official rule doesn't support changing or unbinding it, and support can't force a change either.

I already bound the wrong code — after 90 days can I re-bind?

No. The 90-day old-user recall only applies to accounts that have never bound any referrer. An account that already established a valid referral relationship can't use the 90-day recall to change its referrer, even if it hasn't been used for a long time.

Can contacting support change the referral code?

Support usually can't modify an established referral relationship. If the account never bound a referrer, support may guide you to back-fill or recall.

Can closing and reopening the account change the referral code?

Not recommended. Binance officially states that closing an old account and re-registering to obtain referral rewards may result in the rebate being terminated; the same identity information corresponding to different referral relationships may also have the rebate stopped.

My advice

Keep this simple:

First check the binding status, then decide whether to do anything. Not bound — a new account within 30 days can still back-fill, so don't miss it; actually bound — don't mess with the account to save a bit on fees.

If you haven't registered yet, or your account is brand new, the least-hassle approach is to go straight to the BN522 signup entry, confirm the signup page shows a 20% invitee rebate before continuing — avoiding the "wrong entry" problem at the source.

The referral code solves a fee problem, not the question of whether a trade is worth doing in the first place. Don't put your account security at risk chasing a code.
